After being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic and subject to strict health restrictions in 2021,the Cannes Film Festival has returned to its full glamorous glory this year. The 75th edition has seen a host of star-studded premieres, with A-listers touching down from all over to take the red carpet by storm. While the star power on display at the resort town’s Palais des Festivals has been brighter this year thanks the presence of stars like Tom Cruise (after 30 years) and Julia Roberts, our eyes have been glued to the Arab stars who have been out in force showing off their stellar fashion sense.
Whether representing the region or dressed by designers from other parts of the world, they have been effortlessly delivering the wow factor during the 11-day film extravaganza. From the red carpet to the famous events and parties, celebrities from the region have undoubtedly been providing some of the most glamorous moments from the prestigious festival.
Two Saudis pulled out all the stops while attending the “Top Gun: Maverick” film premiere. Fatima Al Banawi glided down the red carpet in a custom ultra-feminine pink Rami Kadi hand-made silk chiffon gown. The gorgeous emboirdered creation by the Lebanese-American designer featured holographic threads and a laser-cut feathered cape. The director and actress of popular television series and films like “Barakah Meets Barakah,” “A Blink of an Eye” and “Paranormal” paired it with some standout Cartier jewellery. Influencer and and entrepreneur Noujoud Al Rumaihi, however, demanded attention in a black trouser look by Saudi label Ashi Studio Couture. Al Rumaihi stood out in the celebrity-packed crowd in an autumn/winter 2018/2019 design featuring a glistening hand embroidered bodice and black trousers with a high-low cut pleated skirt overlay. Also a creative consultant, Al Rumaihi added some more high wattage star power with her Chaumet gems.
Meanwhile, Nour Arida slayed in a white Givenchy spring/summer 2022 two-piece outfit designed by Matthew M. Williams. The long organza skirt came with layered peplum in pleated tulle and organza and accompanied with a white leather bra and beige suede platform sandals. The Lebanese-American model, social media influencer, activist and Founder of kidswear line Generation Peace was also rocking a masterpiece from Boucheron around her neck. Another Lebanese, Alice Abdelaziz chose to keep it patriotic in a stunning midnight blue couture dress by Zuhair Murad. The reality TV star, who rose to prominence while on “The Sisters,” was a vision in the semi-sheer gown embellished with beads. It came accompanied by a striking silk taffeta cape and jewels by Messika.
