Nayla Al Baloushi is the first Emirati woman to scale the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest. Joining the likes of Manal Rostom, who became the first Egyptian woman to climb Mount Everest in May 2022, the Emirati climber also completed her climb of 8,848.8 meters on May 14th 2022, and made history in the UAE.
Following weeks of training, climbing and challenges to her endurance, Nayla Al Baloushi made it to the top of Mount Everest, and proud of her heritage, planted the UAE flag at the summit.
The climb was pioneered by Nepalese mountaineer, Chhang Dawa Sherpa of Seven Summit Treks, and was completed sooner than expected due to good weather conditions, as stated on the Seven Summit Treks’ Instagram page.
Aside from being the first Emirati woman to climb Mount Everest, Nayla is also a scuba divemaster, free diver and equestrian. Al Baloushi completed her climb two days before Dubai-based, Manal Rostom, the first Egyptian woman to scale Everest. Manal Rostom had been documenting her climb and took to Instagram to share her challenges, fears and finally the moment of her “on top of the world.”
