Fashion has a way of spinning a positive twist on life and this year’s ‘dopamine dressing’ trend is as bold and eclectic as ever. Neutrals and basics are out, saturated pops of color are in. Loud colors such as orange, yellow, and green have invaded the catwalks pushing aside Pantone’s ‘Very Peri’ - the annual color of the year. Instead of apparel such as oversized hats, bamboo bags, high-wasted jeans, oversized shirting, and platform shoes defining our fashion trends, this year’s trend is a saturated tone between fuchsia and deep magenta, better known as ‘hot pink’.
Today gendered colors are completely outdated and pink has wholly broken through its stereotype. The same old millennial pink has evolved into the limelight and is trending as the vibrant hot pink shade dominating 2022.
Fashion houses Dior, Alexander McQueen and Versace used bursts of the shade to a great extent in their spring/summer 2022 runway collections. Since then the shade is being worn by all genres of fashion enthusiasts who have chosen to incorporate it into their wardrobes. However, hot pink reigned supreme earlier this year in March, during Valentino’s fall 2022 collection. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli created his own shade, Pink PP, with Pantone to create 40 head-to-toe looks all presented back to back on a tonal runway. At the fashion show Zendaya, the current face of Valentino stunned in her hot pink pantsuit. The color has gained more popularity as it transcended the runways onto the red carpet and finally trickled down to retailers and high street shops alike. Recently, it just seems like every collection of clothing has been taken over by the trending color of 2022.
An assortment of hot pink garments has been sported by Saweetie and Billie Porter at the Grammys, as well as Glenn Close, Jenna Ortega, Nicola Peltz, and Sebastian Stan at the Met Gala. Even Formula One's superstar driver, Lewis Hamilton, wore a matching T-shirt and trousers from Valentino to the Miami Grand Prix.
Interestingly, celebrities are incorporating the color into their looks in very different ways. Whether it is being worn as a hot pink accent like Justin Bieber’s Balenciaga beanie and Travis Barker’s Raf Simons satin trench coat, or a head-to-toe monochrome look such as Dua Lipa’s hot pink bodysuit, or Saweetie’s full pink Valentino outfit, it definitely screams for attention.
The color comes in all forms, be it blazers, dresses, bags, bathing suits, mini dresses, designer shoes, and earrings. Make sure to add some pop of color to your outfit this summer, you won't regret it.
