The Venice Biennale will happen this year in 2023 from May until end of November, under the title of “The Laboratory of The Future,” and Saudi Arabia will be taking part of it.
There is no shortage of art, talent, and skills in Saudi Arabia, and every year different events and exhibitions are held locally and internationally to showcase that talent.
The amazing news was announced last week by the Architecture and Design Commission in KSA by the CEO, Sumaya Suleiman. During that press conference she addressed what the theme will be like and how it will manifest as being a platform to showcase “solutions to contemporary and human issues.”
She also made sure that all the attendants knew that this event will support and uphold their values that include equal opportunities for all, so anyone can apply.
She also reiterated how important it was that the kingdom does indeed participate in these events, because she wants to amplify the Saudi Arabian design voice globally and on a global and prestigious platform such as the Biennale.
Previously, Saudi Arabia has participated in two Venice Biennales, one in 2018 and one in 2021.
The 59th International Art Exhibition runs from 23 April to 27 November 2023 (pre-opening on 20, 21 and 22 April), curated by Cecilia Alemani. “As the first Italian woman to hold this position, I intend to give voice to artists to create unique projects that reflect their visions and our society”, Alemani has declared.
Cecilia Alemani is a curator who has organized many exhibitions of contemporary artists. She is currently Director and Chief Curator of High Line Art, the programme of public art of the urban park in New York, and is the past curator of the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2017.
