Rasha Al Khamis had a great impact on the sport of boxing for women in Saudi Arabia.
In 2018, she became the first female boxing coach in Saudi Arabia, and began teaching boxing classes at Kind Saud University. She is known to be a great inspiration for many young women at that time, and until now she continues to impact the sport scene and pave the way for many Saudi Arabian women.
Earlier at the start of 2022, Al-Khamis became the first Saudi Arabian to be selected to be part of the board in the Asian Boxing Committee, and this year in August she became the first women to be part of the Arab Boxing Union as president of the women’s committee.
Now, she pushes to elevate the sport for young women all over the kingdom, especially in light of “Rage on The Red Sea” which was a boxing match event in Jeddah. “Rage On the Red Sea” was considered one of the biggest sporting event hosted by Saudi Arabia, and witnessed a ticket sale of among the highest in the country.
Al Khamis states that she was very excited to watch the first women’s pro boxing match to happen in the kingdom, while speaking about Ramla Ali and Crystal Garcia Nova’s boxing fight. She recognizes the impact of this event on the country, and even on her students in her classes.
She has seen a 100% increase in registration of female programs, and with the plan of executing fitness courses in various schools around the kingdom, she knows change is underway.
Al Khamis states to Arab News, “The more schools we can integrate, the more opportunities we create for organic growth of the sport in the country. This helps us build good competition and gives us a chance to send strong participants to the Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.”
