Fashion for Relief, the nonprofit organization founded in 2005 by British supermodel Naomi Campbell, has partnered with Qatar Creates to introduce Emerge, a global charitable initiative. The runway model will co-host a charity gala and fashion show through Emerge to promote alternative education and invest in young creative and entrepreneurial talent from developing nations, with an emphasis on Africa, the Diaspora, and underdeveloped areas worldwide.
The event will take place on October 28 at Education City’s Ceremonial Court, held under the patronage of Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, sister of Qatar’s emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. By focusing on creative and alternative industries such as general education, fashion, technology, art, environmental innovations, and agriculture, Emerge is expected to develop new apprenticeships, after-school programs, and university programs. A magnificent fashion show will be the culmination of the three main Emerge events—the Art Exhibit, the Fashion Exhibit, and the Emerge Talk.
The Art Exhibit will highlight leading and acclaimed young artists, led by Art Masters such Kehinde Wiley or Victor Ehikhamenor. The Fashion Exhibit will feature a range of award-winning fashion designers from Africa, the Diaspora and the Middle East, such as Thebe Magugu, Bianca Saunders, and Abdel El Tayeb. Following an opening discussion on the importance of creativity in business with Campbell, Sheikha Al-Mayassa, and New York-based artist Kehinde Wiley, the creative and business event Emerge Talk will bring together top experts to examine the future of alternative sectors.
The charity gala is a ticketed affair that will include a couture show where well-known designers will present their creations, an auction, and a VIP dinner. The EMERGE gala is one of a number of high-profile events that Qatar Creates has planned for the opening of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and beyond.
