Beginning on October 20th 2022, Diriyah Season will return for its second edition with a plethora of culture, entertainment and top sporting events. According to the organizers, this year’s edition will highlight Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing tourism industry as it will attract both local and international visitors, whilst creating jobs for Saudi nationals for the next 5 months as it draws to an end on 22nd February 2023.
Chairman of the Diriyah Season committee, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, said in a statement, “We are delighted to announce the imminent launch of the Diriyah Season 2022 in the historic city, which features a great ancient historical heritage and deep-rooted geography and is listed on UNESCO’s World Urban Heritage sites.” He continued, “Here I invite all fans, from inside and outside the Kingdom, to participate and enjoy this season, and what it offers.”
It was also mentioned that it was the success of the events of 2019, which included the Formula E races and the world heavyweight boxing championship that had encouraged the government to hold events in Diriyah again.
CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Authority, Jerry Inzerillo, had lauded Diriyah to be “an ideal location to host regional and international events.” He said, “We are excited to see large numbers of visitors from all over the world in the new season, and we look forward to satisfying visitors’ passion for sports and entertainment experiences.”
The previous Diriyah season was held over just one month with 196 national and international athletes that participated in four global sports events alongside 16 top live music performers that also entertained the thousands of visitors that attended.
Visitors flocked to Diriyah from 63 countries, 300,000 people visited the events, and 15,000 jobs were created for young Saudis which helped boost the tourism and entertainment sector in a positive way.
