The Riyadh Season 2022 will begin on October 21 with a Cirque du Soleil performance and the unveiling of 15 entertainment zones, including a mega dining destination and a superhero village.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority (GEA) chairman Turki al-Shikh provided details about this year's Riyadh Season, which is being held under the slogan “Beyond Imagination,” in a video broadcast from the top of one of Riyadh's skyscrapers. He also mentioned that on October 22, following the opening night, "the zones will begin to open one after the other, and we will announce the opening of each.”
This year's season will include a variety of zones, some of which were present in the past but have now been expanded, as well as some that are brand new. One of these is the multi-cultural ‘Boulevard World’, which brings together the traditions and international cuisine of several countries around the world, where all of these countries will showcase their experiences through diners, markets, and arts. It will also include the world's largest artificial lake, submarines, a Combat village, and a Superhero Village, as well as a cable car that will transport visitors between the zone and its neighboring ‘Boulevard Riyadh City’ zone.
‘Boulevard Riadh City’ has grown to include more restaurants and cafes, and it will continue to host concerts and plays. In addition to a number of weekly events, 25 Arab and international plays will be staged, including seven Saudi plays, most notably those of philosopher Youssef Al-Thunayan and Majed Abdullah's "Flaming Arrow."
This year, the historic ‘Murabba’ and the ‘Winter Wonderland’ zones will return with new luxurious restaurants, new games and various experiences.
‘Sky Riyadh’ is yet another new addition to the Riyadh Season 2022 lineup. The new zone will include various locations where visitors can enjoy a bird's-eye view of Riyadh, including the skyscraper from which Al-Shikh made the announcement. Also ‘Via Riyadh’, one of the newly opened zones, will include top-tier restaurants, cinemas, and international brands.
The Season features a variety of exhibitions catering to the tastes of all types of visitors, including families, children, and individuals, such as a toy fair, workshops, 'I am an Arab,' anime, 'Black Hat,' and perfume and car fairs.
The Season introduces 'Riyadh Zoo' as part of its activities this year, and there are also several surprises in the areas of 'Little Riyadh' and 'The Groves' in the Diplomatic Quarter. 'Riyadh Imagination Park’ also has a gaming zone where you can simulate the most famous films, their designs, and live shows.
With the World Cup starting next month, the Riyadh Season will include a ‘Fan Festival’ zone at ‘Mrsool Park’ and will feature exhibitions on late football star Diego Maradona as well as another on the Newcastle Club, according to Al-Shikh.
Other sporting events scheduled for this year include the Riyadh Season Cup, which will feature Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and players from Al Hilal SFC and Al-Nassr FC, as well as WWE matches.
