The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has long been one of the key players globally in pushing for humanitarian relief and developmental aid to countries in need. Now years later, the documented numbers have come to shown the kingdom’s impact all over the world.
It was announced by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, the Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, that Saudi Arabia has ranked the first among donor countries in offering official development assistance.
The data published by the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development shows that a total of USD 7.12 billion have been donated to underprivileged countries.
A statement was released by the Saudi Press Agency in which Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah stated that the aid offered forms 1.05% of Saudi Arabia’s national income.
He also stated that with this numbers, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has exceeded the other donor countries and outshined the goal set by the UN General Assembly. This target was agreed upon in 1970 that donor countries would assign 0.7% of their national income as official development assistance.
The Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continued on to state his gratitude for the work of the companies and entities that were in the documenting process.
He also stated that, “The directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have contributed to this big achievement that put Saudi Arabia at the top of international humanitarian action.”
With the mission of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center being “To become a leading center for relief and humanitarian activities and to transfer our values to the world,” one can safely say that they have accomplished that.
The programs carried out by the center include aid in various humanitarian and relief field, namely: (Relief Security, Camps Management, Shelter, Early Recovery, Protection, Education, Water and Sanitation, Nutrition, Health, Humanitarian and Emergency Relief Coordination, Logistics and Emergency Telecommunication.
Some of their most recent endeavors include aid in Yemen, Morocco, Jordan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan, Djibouti, Benin, and more.
