The Middle East Film and Comic Con will be held from March 3–5 in Abu Dhabi, and it has been reported that "Moon Knight" actress May Calamawy, who is of Egyptian and Palestinian origin, will be a celebrity guest.
Jamie Campbell Bower, an actor from "Stranger Things," will also attend the event, which has already confirmed a celebrity lineup that includes American voice actors Christopher Sabat and Zach Aguilar, American actress Paige O'Hara, British actors Andy Serkis, Matt Smith, and Anthony Daniels, as well as Disney's acclaimed designer Mike Peraza.
Born to an Egyptian father and a Jordanian-Palestinian mother, Calamawy is one of Hollywood's up-and-coming talents. Raised between the Gulf country and Houston, Texas, she now lives between New York and Los Angeles. Calamawy got her B.A. in Theatre Studies from Emerson College in Boston. Her breakout performance came in 2019 when she was cast as a series regular on Hulu‘s Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning comedy series "Ramy."
The actress, who was born in Bahrain, also portrayed Layla El-Faouly in the "Moon Knight" Marvel serial. Her character is the spouse of Marc Spector, an archaeologist played by Oscar Isaac who by the conclusion of the season had changed into the superhero Scarlet Scarab.
Acting beside Isaac and Ethan Hawke, according to Calamawy, was "terrifying, like, very intimidating at first." She clarified, “Once I got to know them, I would be, like, ‘Guys I’m intimidated,’ and that helped. After a while you don’t care anymore and its fun because I got to have a masterclass with the best.”
"Moon Knight," the first Marvel picture to have an Arab director, was directed by Egyptian director Mohamed Diab.
On March 4 and 5, Bower, who portrayed Vecna, the primary antagonist in the "most-watched TV series of 2022," will make an appearance. The actor, performer, composer, and artist from the UK has starred in a variety of well-known franchises, including "Harry Potter," "Twilight," "Mortal Instruments," "Fantastic Beasts," and, as of 2022, "Stranger Things," Netflix's most popular original series.
