On International Women's Day, we had the chance to chat with leading female figures hailing from Saudi Arabia. Kariman Abu Eljadayel is a name that has been making waves in the world of sports. Her lightning-fast speed and impeccable form led her to become the first to compete in the 100m race at the Rio summer Olympics in 2016. After her tedious journey as a sprinter, Kariman became a professional rower part of the Saudi Rowing Federation. The Saudi female athlete was also named as one of Forbes Middle East's 30 Under 30 in the sports category, and later on was appointed as the first female Saudi sports ambassador by the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee.
Kariman Abu Eljadayel is more than just a talented athlete; she is a trailblazer, a symbol of hope, and a force to be reckoned with. Her story is one of determination, strength.

Can you walk us through the entire physical and emotional process?
For me, racing has no surprises. Getting the result that I want depends on how well I practiced for the race. It is the practice that wins races, so make sure you practice well to ensure you are physically and mentally prepared. It is also helpful to simulate racing conditions during practice time. This way, if you panic or crack under pressure, you can talk it through with your coach.
Any words for girls and women doubting to try races or even just taking up running / rowing as a hobby? Any ideas where to start in KSA?
I began running and rowing from the comfort of my own home years ago. The rowing machine or treadmill can be used in any gym or at home. Nowadays, Saudi Arabia offers people a wide array of options and opportunities for fulfilling their passions. I recommend anyone starting a new sport to push through their doubts and to never give up. The beginning of anything is always the most challenging.

Any plans for Women’s Day?
Women's Day always coincides on my training camps, so I plan to practice, lol. Also, I plan to call my mom and sisters to thank them for their support and belief in me.
What is next on your bucket list?
It is always my goal to improve on what I do from day to day. As far as I know, I do not have a list from which to check things off.
What’s currently playing on your running playlist?
In my playlist, I have all genres you can imagine, but if I have to focus, I'll choose Rocky Balboa's soundtrack. Songs like "Eye of the Tiger" and "No Easy Way Out" really get you moving!
