Meghan Markle, her marriage to Prince Harry and her relationship with the British monarchy has been a point of contention for some time and the world has been up in arms about pair’s choices to leave the royal family and fend for themselves across the pond in America.
When Markle was entering royal life in the UK, it was reported that there were many things she had to sacrifice – including her acting career and lifestyle blog, which was called “The Tig.” In 2023, following explosive interviews and a dramatic exit from the British royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very much settled in their “free” lives over in California, and its recently been reported that Markle is looking to relaunch her “passion project.”
The New York Post had mentioned a document filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, that indicates that a prospective relaunched version of the website would offer up articles and interviews on “food, cooking, recipes, travel, relationships, fashion, style, interior design, lifestyle, the arts, culture, design, conscious living, health and wellness.”
British daily rag, The Mirror, also shared that Meghan Markle has been given “official preliminary approval” for the website, which would also offer “commentary in the field of personal relationships” and could be set to go live as soon as next week. It has been reported by social “insiders” that Meghan hopes the venture will amass as much success as Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness empire, Goop.
It was in 2017 that Markle decided to stop posting on her site, “The Tig” which she had named after her favorite red wine, “Tignanello,” and had conveyed a farewell message in which she wrote, “After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun, and frivolity. You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being ‘the change you wish to see in the world.’” Which she then signed off with, “Above all, don’t ever forget your worth—as I’ve told you time and time again: you, my sweet friend, you are enough.”
American tabloid magazine, People, had reported that a close source to Meghan and Harry had iterated that her decision to shut her blog down was not because of her relationship with the then, British royal. She had made the decision months before her engagement to Harry was announced. Sources had told the magazine that, “The Tig has been a labor of love for Meghan…but it’s a full-time job. She wants to focus this season of Suits…and spending more time in the field on her philanthropy.” We may beg to differ!
Moreover, Harry and Meghan’s decision to give up their royal duties has given them the freedom they wouldn’t have had if they had remained in the royal fold, such as the free reign to pursue ventures that wouldn’t fall under the conventional royal remit- including production deals with Netflix and Spotify as well as their Archewell foundation and Harry’s bombshell memoir, “Spare.” Meghan relaunching “The Tig” may offer her yet another feather in her new hat of an independent career.
