Saudi Delegation Plans To Attend The Venice Architecture Biennale

The Saudi Arabian Architecture and Design Commission has appointed a team to represent the country at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. The curatorial team will consist of Basma Bouzo, Noura Bouzo, Joharah Lou Pabalate, Cyril Zammit, and architect AlBara Saimaldahar. The team wants to use a worldwide platform to highlight Saudi Arabia's historical legacy, architectural achievements, and goals for the future.

The pavilion’s focus will be on the theme of “The Laboratory of the Future,” highlighting how architects can create innovative solutions to address global challenges and contribute to improving society. The team will also take part in an open discussion to talk about the goals of the Saudi exhibit and offer advice on how to show architectural work internationally.

By taking part in this show, the Architecture and Design Commission has made a major advancement in the development of the architectural and design industry in Saudi Arabia. The exhibition will showcase the commission's expanding involvement in creating frameworks, backing local talent, and constructing infrastructure.

The exhibition will be curated by Ghanaian-Scottish architect and academic Lesley Lokko and will take place from May 20 to November 26, 2023, at the Giardini, the Arsenale, and Forte Marghera in Venice. The commission’s participation in the exhibition will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase Saudi Arabia’s architectural vision to the world and engage with architects and designers from various regions.

Sumayah Al-Solaiman, CEO of the Architecture and Design Commission, expressed her pride in participating in the Venice Architecture Biennale for the second time. She acknowledged that taking part in such events provides an international platform to showcase the Kingdom’s architecture and design vision. She further added that the commission looks forward to engaging with architects and designers worldwide to exchange ideas and learn from different experiences.

Overall, the commission’s participation in this international exhibition will strengthen the country’s presence in the architecture and design industry, and provide a platform for Saudi Arabia to showcase its unique cultural heritage, architecture, and future aspirations.
