Dolce & Gabbana's highly anticipated Alta Moda show took place in Puglia, Italy, and showcased a blend of Italian luxury and Arab talent. Saudi model Amira Al-Zuhair made a striking appearance on the runway, while Dubai-based influencer Ola Farahat was seen among the audience. The event attracted a star-studded guest list, including renowned figures like Dame Helen Mirren, Kim Kardashian, Venus Williams, Christian Bale, Erling Haaland, and many others. This extravagant fashion show and subsequent dinner were part of a five-day extravaganza organized by the esteemed fashion label to delight their international clientele.
Dolce & Gabbana's collection for the Alta Moda show demonstrated a departure from their usual opulence, instead highlighting impeccable craftsmanship and paying tribute to local artistic traditions. The opening model donned an oversized straw hat resembling the iconic conical shape of the trulli, the traditional dry stone huts with corbelled roofs found in the picturesque Itria Valley of Puglia. The runway also featured basket weave corsets and lingerie sets crafted from crochet doilies, elegantly showcased by Saudi French model Al-Zuhair in a stunning black ensemble.
The performance took place at Alberobello, a location recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its historic stone buildings that date to the fourteenth century. The designers enlisted the expertise of local artisans, who worked alongside the narrow streets transformed into runways, skillfully weaving straw baskets and fashioning leather into bridles.
Amidst her hectic summer, Al-Zuhair had the honor of walking the runway for several prominent labels during Paris Haute Couture Week. Born to a French mother and Saudi father, she graced the catwalk for Georges Hobeika and Elie Saab as part of the official calendar, and also participated in Georges Chakra's show during Paris couture week.
Reflecting on her experiences, Al-Zuhair expressed gratitude for the diverse atmospheres, emotions, and energies she encounters with each fashion show. She acknowledged the unique inspirations behind each collection and how they influence the garments as well as the way she presents herself on the runway. Al-Zuhair emphasized the immense responsibility she feels as a trusted model for these esteemed designers, acknowledging the hard work and emotional investment that goes on behind the scenes. To her, fashion is not only an art form but also a means of self-expression, and she considers it a great honor to showcase these designers' masterpieces to the world.
