Daphne Tan from Singapore has over 33,000 followers on Instagram (check out @Periperipeng), the majority of them garnered in just one year, and all this for her out-of-this-world coffee art that she makes by herself in her kitchen. She creates 3D latte art, each cup taking her just 10 to 20 minutes to make, depending on the complexity.
According to her website, Tan’s interest in making these deliciously crazy cups was sparked in a school program where she had the opportunity to attend a workshop on the appreciation of gourmet coffee.
For colors, Tan uses only natural food coloring, with a bit of carob powder and water to draw and color the foam. To make the foam itself, she uses a milk frother from Nespresso, and to shape it, she goes for simple tools found in any kitchen such as spoons and a bamboo skewer. And how does she make sure the coffee stays warm by the time she’s done? She uses a double walled mug when she can.
Some of her most iconic creations include comic book character Snoopy, the minion from the Despicable Me movies, Disney’s Nemo, Tigger, and Stitch, and even Batman. Visit her Instagram page for a daily dose of yummy inspiration, and see how she makes her foam characters from scratch.
