They made headlines during Milan Fashion Week SS18 by inviting the original 90s supers to storm down the runway with Donatella for a special 20th anniversary showcase. And now the brand, a glamorous symbol of Italian luxury worldwide, has gathered another stellar lineup of models for its spring/summer 2018 campaign.
This time today’s hottest talents join some of the most iconic forces in fashion, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington. Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bündchen, Irina Shayk and Kaia Gerber have joined Versace’s extended “super” family, each telling a story in individual portraits that capture their personalities. Raquel Zimmerman, Natalia Vodianova,
Vittoria Ceretti,
Cara Taylor,
Birgit Kos, Grace Elizabeth and Noah Luis Brown also appear in the campaign.
Favoured photographers have always played a big part in the Versace family as well. So to celebrate the beginning of the 40th anniversary of the fashion house, it was legendary collaborator Steven Meisel who stood behind the camera to take the images, each one telling a different strength of character story. As well as unapologetic energy, each shot is a modern take on the Versace principles that have been evident for decades: creativity, empowerment, inclusivity and that matchless Versace sense of daring.
Conceived by Donatella, the house’s Artistic Director, the campaign features the exuberant prints Gianni designed between 1991 and 1995, which are the basis of the “Tribute” collection. For example, leopard from the 1992 “Animalier” collection, Greek keys from the “Baroque” collection of 1991 and Marilyn screenprints from the Warhol show have been revisited with new silhouettes for a modern look.
“This campaign represents the link between past and present. You need to know who you are, and where you are coming from, to build your future. And when you are at the head of a brand with such a strong heritage as mine, you can only embrace it. This is the reason why I wanted to see this iconic supermodel cast next to the soon-to-be-iconic girls of the future,” Donatella said while explaining the concept.
