Award season marches on, giving us loads of stellar looks to fawn over. And the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards didn’t disappoint with all the standout beauty moments. Whether it was the bold lipsticks or playful hair moments, the stars really upped their hair and make-up game during the 24th edition of the awards show that celebrates actors of television and film.
Some of the major hair trends we saw emerge from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on January 21 included updos, whether chic or dramatic, as well lustrous Hollywood-style curls and waves. In the make-up department, our favourite celebrities shutdown the red carpet in bold coloured lipsticks and extremely smokey eyes. Matte pink lipsticks, eyes bedecked with neutral metallics and rosy cheeks also graced the event.
The great thing about make-up is that it is one of the easiest parts of celebrities' lives we can copy quite easily. While we may not be able to drop so many zeros on a couture dress, we can afford an impromptu trip to Sephora. So get your notebook ready for the stellar beauty looks we’ve zoomed in on.
Yara Shahidi made it all about standout beauty with that splendid head of voluminous, natural curls, parted at the centre, which had us automatically thinking of Diana Ross. And of course, who could ignore that chic, glossy berry pout? The “Black-ish” actress, nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, also wowed with her glowing, flawless skin.
While her 1920s-style finger waves were a very classic Hollywood look, “Orange Is the New Black” star Danielle Brooks added a modern twist with her eyeshadow. Her fiery crimson smokey eye and red gloss were the perfect match to her dress (and the red carpet).
The first-ever SAG Awards host, Kristen Bell, went all out pink for the job debut. The funny “Bad Moms “ star coordinated her hot pink gown with a pale pink smokey eye and a matching pink lip. We also loved her sophisticated, low and pulled-back updo; a simple side part can make all the difference!
Whether it was her red-orange lip, or her faultlessly brushed -back tresses, Madeline Brewer’s beauty look was simply stunning. And we’ve already started hunting for the pearl barrette the actress in “The Handmaid's Tale,” nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, wore to complement her dress.
Margot Robbie, the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role nominee for her role in “I, Tonya,” offered a fantastic masterclass in effortless beauty. For her SAG Awards debut, as well as a touch of sparkle on her eyes, she went for a monochromatic and minimalist peachy-pink theme to match her dress. Plus, we cant’ stop gawping at that natural windswept shoulder-grazing lob.
There are so many things to rave about when it comes to Millie Bobby Brown’s super cute red carpet look. Nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category for her “Stranger Things” role, the young star gave us all the feels with her Baby-Spice inspired style. The black ribbon-adorned double space buns, metallic eyeshadow and adorable bubblegum pink lipstick definitely cement her tween style influencer status.
Let’s just have a moment for Halle Berry’s sky-high, two-tiered ponytail, which was tousled to perfection and displayed an edgy undercut. The stunning winner of two past SAG Awards, who presented Sunday, also rocked a bronze, shimmery eye look and nude lippie to go with her gown that featured ombre sequins.
It's the understated touch of blue eyeshadow, delicately built-in at the inner corners of Mandy Moore's bronze-gold eye that made us do a double take. Complementing her gown, it was paired with a touch of matching navy eyeliner. The “This Is Us” star and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series nominee also sported a voluminous, curly lob and pink- accented cheeks and lips.
Allison Janney, who won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for playing demanding mother LaVona Golden in “I, Tonya,” took power hairstyling to the next level with her low, glossy and super straight long ponytail. Janney, who turned heads in a suit of armour-like gown featuring gunmetal paillette, finished her look with light pink lipstick.
Is it possible to go wrong with an Old Hollywood aesthetic? Allison Williams amazed in a stunning cherry red lippie, which added a classic Hollywood touch. Williams, who plays a bone-chilling role in “Get Out,” the movie nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Theatrical Motion Picture, complemented her lipstick with slicked retro waves, pulled back on one side to show off a gorgeous ear cuff, and generous blush.
Presenter Lupita Nyong'o was positively glowing at the awards ceremony, with rosy cheeks adding colour to her luminescent skin. The subtle metallic finish on her sultry smokey eye-makeup was an ode to her sparkly dress. The Oscar-winning “12 Years a Slave” actress, then topped everything off with a chrome shade lipstick. Naturally (pardon the pun), we're still in love with her signature hair.
“Orange Is the New Black” actress Dascha Polanco let her hair do all the talking. Her long, dreamy and sultry mermaid-like tresses were a nod to Hollywood glam. The New Yorker’s make-up was pared back, however she did make her eyes pop with some gorgeous golden glittery eyeshadow and lashings of mascara.
Presenter Olivia Munn got us heading to the mirror to try a centre part with this look that focuses on her glossy, straight lob that didn’t include a single flyaway in sight. For her natural-looking make-up, the actress and model opted for a matte pink lipstick, some shimmery neutral eyeshadow and a sparkling rosy blush.
Natalia Dyer could have easily been part of a ballet performance with her sleek and chic bow-esque chignon. The Nashville-born celebrity who plays Nancy in “Stranger Things," nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, also unveiled a simple flick of eyeliner and pink-nude lippie.
To match her dress, Alison Brie chose a coral red lipstick with a satin finish. The “GLOW” star and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series nominee also revealed a modern and messy updo with twists and a low-key knot. A subtle smokey eye, eyeliner and a flush of bronzer completed the exquisite look.
