Luanne D'Souza
As well as being a great creative outlet, fashion and beauty can be perfect tools for boosting confidence and conveying character, something Luanne D'Souza knows all too well. In fact, the plus size fashion blogger and stylist has made it her mission to share how clothes and make-up can enhance our lives. As well as proving you can be stylish and trendy whatever size you are, her blog, “Weesha’s World,” is D'Souza’s way of letting big girls know they are not alone. In her spare time, the online marketing professional pens personal accounts of what she’s had to deal with, whether it’s starving, bulimia, depression or self-harm, to help others going through the same.
We grab a seat with D'Souza, who is originally Indian but grew up in Dubai, to ask her some tips about summer styling and her favourite plus size influencers. We also ask the inspiring fashion enthusiast about the benefits of blogging and how fashion can dictate our mood. What’s more, we got her to tell us all about the special piece she co-designed with Kanchan Kulkarni for the the ‘KARA Woman of Substance' campaign. The KARA campaign celebrates women who are just like D’Souza: feminine, empowered and dynamic.
Could you tell us some top spring/summer style tricks?
All you need are a few staples like a bardot top, a floral maxi dress and a white summer dress. I'd dress these looks up with trendy straw accessories and statement fringe earrings.
Accessories are a great way to update your summer style without having to invest in new clothes.
What are your favourite SS18 trends?
I really love the matching sets trend, especially the monochrome suits trend!
How does fashion have a positive impact on your mood?
Sometimes, if you look good, you feel good, and I love trying out new trends and styles. Personal expression through fashion and style is always a confidence booster.
How did growing up in Dubai influence your fashion sense?
I definitely have that magpie syndrome thanks to growing up in Dubai, I love all things metallic and flashy!
Who do you feel are the most influential plus size influencers at the moment?
Gabi Gregg and Nicolette Mason for sure, they're doing great things in the industry and they have amazing style.
You help women feel good about themselves, but what else do you get out of writing a blog?
My blog is like an online documentation of my journey to self-acceptance, it's been a therapeutic experience for myself as well, and I know I wouldn't be as confident as I am now without my blog. Also, it's helped me make so many friends across the world; it really opens up your mind to a different way of thought.

What other things are you passionate about?
Animals, I have four rescues at home and they're the loves of my life.
Tell us about the piece you designed for the KARA campaign.
I wanted to wear something empowering and different, superwoman vibes but glamorous! We came up with this incredible jumpsuit that has these elaborate wing-like sleeves and sparkly embellishments on the front. It is perfection, and I felt amazing wearing it, it's definitely a favourite in my wardrobe at the moment.
Which part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
Oddly enough, the fitting, it's so amazing to work with a designer who understands curves and real bodies. I left each fitting feeling so good about myself.
Did you get to meet any of the other women taking part in the campaign?
Thanks to this campaign, I got to meet a group of inspiring women who are so friendly and supportive, despite having just met for the first time. Everyone had such empowering stories; the future is definitely female!
