Nosheen Bakhsh
Jewellery brand Sheen made history this fashion week in London as it became the first ever Saudi jewellery company to exhibit at the highly anticipated London Fashion Week. The event took place at the Designer Showrooms which is a space dedicated to 150 handpicked British and international brands.
Nosheen Bakhsh is the Saudi designer behind Sheen and is currently based in Dubai. She founded the brand in 2013, which fuses her passions in jewellery design and the social causes she cares about. From every sale made, a percentage of the profits are donated to UNCHR and Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
Bakhsh spoke to Emirates Woman and shared her joy at being selected for the Designer Showrooms at LFW, “Being the first Saudi jewellery brand to participate is an honour. I hope this paves the way for many more designers and that we see more Middle Eastern designers showcasing at international fashion weeks.”
Inspired by her trip to India, specifically Rajasthani states, Jaipur and Udaipur, known for its rich and regal history, Nosheen’s latest collection is the second to be created in silver. Showcasing the collection at the world renowned fashion event, the collection combines Middle Eastern elegance with the intricacy of Indian jewellery.
The designer is also a strong believer in women from the Arab region and their ability to smash through glass ceilings and achieve their goals, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Starting a business isn’t ever going to be busy. Once you commit to something, try to be patient and consistent and eventually opportunities will come forth. Take calculated risks and don’t be afraid to fail because it’s not over unless you give up.”
Sheen is one of two Middle Eastern brands to have showcased at LFW for the first time, and joined Egyptian fashion label, Three Fifty Nine which presented it’s SS19 collection following a triumphant win at a fashion competition in Dubai.
