We're celebrating highlights from Arab designers at the 2020 Paris Couture Week! Returning for his seventeenth season, Syrian designer, Rami Al Ali’s Spring/Summer 2020 couture show at the spectacular Hotel Le Meurice in Paris gave us everything we ever wished for. Inspired by the floral wonder that is the orchid, Al Ali’s collection channels the splendor and elegance of the flower into a glorious 22 piece collection.
The orchid represents beauty and strength—delicate yet bold, and taking those elements into consideration, Rami’s collection features strong architectural silhouettes that modernize traditional couture. “Couture allows people to dream, it’s a form of escapism that has the power to move you in a way you didn’t think possible. This season, I found inspiration in the orchid. What’s fascinating about the orchid is its ability to appear strong and feminine at the same time - it’s both beautiful and resilient,” Rami Al Ali explained. “I tried to translate not just the physical beauty of the flower, but also the essence of what it represents. Each design within the collection has a core focal point that mesmerizes the eye in a particular way. It draws you in and allows you to see the intricate craftsmanship behind each design.”
The Syrian designer’s couture collection in Paris featured a palette of exotic bursts of lime green, turquoise, coral and rose which bought each piece to life. Gold accents added an iridescent shimmer paired with meticulous beadwork, which added a 3 dimensional effect that depicted dew on a petal.
Bold lines were softened with luxe fabrics including tulle, organza, muslin, Mikado, and silk, some of which were laser cut and arranged in a tessellated pattern to illustrate a beautiful floral motif on the skirt of one of Al Ali’s masterpieces. See for yourself!
