Moschino’s Jeremy Scott fascinated us once again, this time with cake dresses, towering beehive hairdos and platforms at his star-studded Marie-Antoinette-inspired show. Kendall Jenner looked amazing in a teeny-tiny silver strapless chain mail dress at the Versace show, which was the very first one with women’s and men’s collections on the same runway. (One reason Donatella opted for a genderless, yet still very glamorous, show is that women and men are “equally powerful.”) And the Max Mara woman went to sea to follow “her dreams as they cast her as the captain of her own ship,” according to designer Ian Griffiths’s show notes.
These were just some of the best moments from Milan Fashion Week as designers showcased their autumn/winter 2020 collections. Another one saw Alessandro Michele transfer the behind-the-scenes of a fashion show to the centre stage at Gucci. Show goers got to walk onto the set to get an up-close view of all the hair and make-up preparations and then see the final looks, which included Victorian gowns, sailor-inspired pieces and pilgrimesque chic, on a turning carousel.
With the show that flipped the script in mind, we’ve rounded up all the best backstage moments during the fashion extravaganza in the Italian city. Other highlights include the most-in-demand models giving us all the outerwear inspiration we need when autumn comes around once again. Scroll through to see Irina Shayk in a gorgeous belted camel coat and off-white leather boots by Etro, Doutzen Kroes in Salvatore Ferragamo’s glossy burgundy longline coat and Bella Hadid in a striking black leather coat with structured shoulders, large collar and playful waist for Fendi.
