Get into the Spirit of Helping This Ramadan in Saudi Arabia

Here's how you can give back and volunteer.

Ramadan is a time for generosity and comradery, peace and gratitude and, being the month when all good deeds receive higher rewards, there's no better time to help those in need. If you’re based in Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam’s holiest sites, you will find that there are many ways to help out this Ramadan, all visible around you. But to get you started, here are some ways you can help this year.

Volunteer

In the month of Ramadan, there is no shortage of organizations and initiatives that have volunteer positions to fill, and the Saudi Food Bank (also known as Etaam) is a good example. In addition to providing various food packages, the non-profit organization also relies on volunteers to distribute meals to those in need. Alternatively, you can also contact your local charity organizations for volunteer opportunities.

Donate a Meal

Many retail establishments in the Kingdom have Ramadan programs that allow shoppers to donate, such as LuLu Supermarket, which is selling its meal kits to customers, and is also donating Ramadan Boxes and Iftar Meals in association with the Saudi Food Bank. For this package, shoppers will be able to buy the kits for themselves, or even donate them, by paying SAR 15 and SAR 99 respectively. Hence, if you're looking to provide Iftar to those in need, or fulfill your Fidya, donate some meal kits via LuLu Supermarket.

Give to Adahi

Established in 1983 by the Saudi government, Adahi is a non-profit organization providing sacrificial meat, or "Qurbani," to those in need. It also facilitates pilgrims while looking after the environment of the two holy sites. On your part, you can help purchase sacrifices on behalf of pilgrims, and Adahi will handle the rest. Although the Hajj season is just a few months away, now is the time to download the Adahi app to get started, be it to contribute to this year or the year ahead.

Support Charity Funds

Indeed, Ramadan is the best month for donating your Zakat and Sadaqat, and there is no shortage of charity organizations to send your donations to. However, if you're looking to provide healthcare to children in need, then consider donating to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC). KFSH&RC specializes in providing healthcare to children with cancer, and support to family members, as well as setting up educational programs for the public, and patients and their families.
