Chanel Pulls Out All the Fashion Stops at Paris Haute Couture Week

Lots and lots of sequins, feathers, sheath dresses, thick metallic belts, pastels and the house’s favourite skirt suit silhouettes took precedence at the spring/summer 2017 CHANEL Haute Couture show.

Structured shoulders and defined waists were à go-go at CHANEL’s spring/summer 2017 Haute Couture show. And Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld’s glamorous silhouettes were reinforced with straight lines, very low-cut décolletés and faux pearl anklets. To top it all off, the models wore slicked back hair, top hats, silver-leather high heels or thigh boots to accessorise the collection. As well as white, silver and grey, which were illuminated with silver sparkles and iridescent touches, we saw a mixture of colours, from beige and pastels through to black and navy.

For daytime, the embroidered braid tweed suits were draped at the waist, enhancing curves and making it seem as if the jackets were tucked in. Plus, tweed jackets accompanied shimmering dresses with officer collars, while pleated skirts and dresses were paired with coats in iridescent tweeds.

When it came to the evening looks, fabrics like radzimir, duchess satin, organza, taffeta, flocked and laminated lace, tulle, jacquard and georgette reigned. Lovely details, including pearlised floral embroideries, stones, mirrored embroidery, strips of sequin-embellished lace and, of course, those feathers, helped the sheath dresses stand out. What’s more, bustiers decorated with rhodoid flowers and leaves, big tulle skirts and dresses, necklines plunging down to the waist and marabou boleros interlaced added charm to the feminine, delicate and gracious collection.

As an added bonus, Lagerfeld had major star power to add to his arsenal. Kendall Jenner appeared on the glitzy runway wearing a column gown with a dipped neckline and ring of feathers. And Bella Hadid added more magic, strutting in wearing belted sequined trousers under a sequined dress with another plunging neckline. Then Lily-Rose Depp’s status as the house’s muse was given a major boost. Lagerfeld chose the American-French actress and model to close the show in the coveted finale couture wedding gown, a blush-pink voluminous organza creation.

Needless to say, the variety didn’t fail to impress every kind of dresser seated in the completely mirrored Grand Palais on 24 January. The venue was decorated in a 1930s and Art Deco style and inspired by the staircase leading up to the CHANEL Haute Couture salons.
