The Infinite Blue is a stunning 11.28 carat radiant - cut Fancy Vivid Blue diamond which will be offered in a stand - alone, single lot live auction on 5 October 2023 as the luxury highlight of the Autumn marquee sale series in Hong Kong.
The diamond will be presented with an estimate of a pproximately US$ 26,000,000 — 37,000,000. One of nature's rarest endowments, blue diamonds are among the most desired diamonds on the market.
The auspicious carat weight of 11.28 was designed and cut with the inclusion of the number 8 – considered as a symbol of prosperity in Asia where the stone will be sold. Additionally, the number’s form — two perfectly balanced, seamlessly connected loops — is the universal symbol for infinity, making The Infinite Blue sentimentally suited to being a token of love and commitment.
The Infinite Blue diamond ’s hue, like that of its namesake, is akin to the vastness of the sea and is so spectacular that it has been graded Fancy Vivid Blue by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) – the highest possible colour grading, awarded to no more than 1% of blue diamonds submitted to the GIA.
The GIA concludes : “To say the Infinite Blue is special cannot be overstated. The odds of finding a blue diamond are of the topmost rarity. This glorious and notable diamond is an example of what can occur when nature leads the way and humankind embraces the 2 earth’s treasures — producing a radiant gem of spirited light performance. The Infinite Blue will continue to stun gem connoisseurs and diamond lovers alike. In the world of gems, blue diamonds steal the show.”
The modern discovery of a blue diamond is an incredibly uncommon occurrence. The only mine to produce blues with any regularity in recent times has been the Cullinan mine in South Africa.
However, that supply has diminished over the past decade; when in full product ion, less than 0.1% of diamonds sourced showed any evidence of blue color. Lastly, it's equally important to note that there have only been 3 Fancy Vivid Blue diamonds from the Cullinan mine weighing over 10 carats that have sold at auction: two-step - cut diamonds (The Oppenheimer Blue, and the De Beers Blue) and one cushion—shaped diamond (The Blue Moon of Josephine).
