Expert reveals how to make your perfume last longer in the heat

As temperatures begin to soar across the Middle East we’re all starting to adjust to our summer routines and that shouldn’t stop with our perfumes.

Just in time for the summer months, the experts at Emirates Pride Perfumes have provided their top tips for ensuring your perfume lasts all day, especially in the hotter weather.

As it gets hotter, it can be harder to make your perfume last longer, however, I have several hacks to ensure you smell great from morning to night, no matter the weather.

Hydration is key:

Dry skin tends to absorb and evaporate perfume more quickly. Before applying perfume, moisturize your skin with an unscented lotion or body oil. This will create a hydrated base for the perfume to cling to, helping it last longer in hot weather.

Step up your concentration:

Opting for perfumes with higher concentrations of fragrance oils, such as eau de parfum or perfume extract, means your fragrance will stick around longer. These formulations contain a higher percentage of aromatic compounds, which can withstand heat better and last longer on the skin compared to lighter concentrations like eau de toilette or body mist.

Apply strategically:

Pulse points are areas on the body where blood vessels are closest to the skin's surface, generating heat and intensifying the fragrance. Apply perfume to pulse points such as the wrists, neck, behind the ears, and inside elbows. These areas emit heat, helping the scent to diffuse more evenly and last longer. Also, don’t forget to spritz your hair, the natural oils in your hair can help to anchor the fragrance.

Avoid rubbing:

When applying perfume, avoid rubbing your wrists together, this is something that lots of people do naturally when applying perfume but rubbing actually breaks down the fragrance molecules and alters the scent. Instead, gently dab or pat the perfume onto your skin and allow it to air dry. This preserves the integrity of the fragrance and helps it last longer.

Reapply strategically:

In hot weather, it's natural for perfume to fade faster due to increased heat and sweating. To maintain the scent throughout the day, carry a travel-size perfume bottle with you and reapply as needed. Focus on pulse points or areas where you notice the scent fading.

Don’t keep your perfume in the bathroom:

Heat, light, and humidity can degrade the quality of perfume and cause it to lose its potency. Store your perfume bottles in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and humidity, such as a drawer or cabinet. Avoid storing perfume in the bathroom, as the humidity from showers can affect its quality.
