Basbousa with Yogurt

Treat your family and friends to this exquisite Arabic delicacy, that can be made right in the heart of your own kitchen.

OF AN ADULT'S REFERENCE INTAKE

Ingredients

To Garnish:

  • Almond to taste
  • Cashew to taste
  • Pistachio to taste
  • Walnut to taste
  • 2 & ¼ cups semolina
  • ½ cup ghee
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 coffee spoon baking powder
  • 1 coffee spoon baking soda
  • ½ cup coconut
  • ¾ cup yogurt
  • 1 pack cream
  • Some tahini – spread for the oven tray
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt – spread for the surface of basbousa
  • Syrup to taste

Method

Steps

  1. In a deep bowl, mix the semolina, ghee, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, coconut, yogurt and cream.
  2. Spread the bottom and sides of the oven tray with tahini.
  3. Move the basbousa mixture to the tray and distribute evenly with the palm of your hand.
  4. Now spread the surface with the yogurt.
     

To garnish:

  1. Distribute the pistachio, almond, cashew and walnut on the surface.
  2. Move the tray to the oven and cook for 25 minutes on 180°C.
  3. When done add the syrup to taste.

Serve warm or cold.
