For their exceptional Alta Moda fashion show in Palermo, Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana turned the pages of “The Leopard,” the Sicilian novel by Tomasi di Lampedusa, for inspiration. Their vision was complemented by make-up that included glowing skin, arresting feline eyes emphasised with naturally structured eyebrows and daring lips. And here’s how to recreate the gorgeous results.
The Complexion
To get the flawless complexion seen during the show, the first step is to apply some primer (The Primer) to prepare and illuminate the skin. Then, blend some liquid foundation (Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation) outwards, from the centre of the face towards the ears. Continue by applying some concealer (Perfect Luminous Concealer) to the shadowed areas of the face and under the eyes to create a base with an even skin tone. Next, for that natural flush, deftly sweep some creamy blush (Creamy Blush) in different shades onto the apples of the cheeks and up towards the ears. Then it’s time to softly contour with some bronzer (Creamy Bronzer in Rosa del Deserto 50) along the cheekbones and on the bridge of the nose. For subtle highlights, you can add some illuminator (Creamy Illuminator in Rosa Del Mattino 60) on the apples of the cheeks, travelling up towards the ears. Finally, set the skin with a light dusting of pressed powder (Perfection Veil Pressed Powder) across the nose, forehead and chin.
The Eyes
For those striking feline eyes seen on the models, apply a creamy golden eyeshadow (Perfect Mono Eyeshadow in Gold Dust 20) as a base, then blend some complementary shimmering pearly-pink and beige-gold shades (The Eyeshadow Duo in Cinnamon 80) across the eyelid and into the inner corner of the eyes to add light and create a subtle sheen. The next step is to amplify the bottom and upper lash lines by blurring a kohl pencil (The Khol Pencil in True Black 1) on the inner rim of the eyes. For an intense look, continue by carefully drawing a line with an eyeliner (The Glam Liner in Black Intense 1). Then, after curling your upper lashes, apply layers of mascara (Passioneyes Mascara in Nero 1), especially on the outer corners for definition and volumising finish. To top it all off, sculpt your brows with a brow liner (The Brow Liner) in a shade that blends in, using the wide part of the pencil nib with light, feathery strokes to fill the colour outwards to the end of the brow.
The Lips
In order to duplicate those beautiful, plump lips, apply a matte and creamy lipstick (Dolce Matte and Classic Cream) in a bold colour like an audacious red or statement burgundy. For definition, use a lipliner (The Lipliner) in a matching shade.
