Kaia Gerber, Tom Ford
Fashion Month is officially over, so we’re taking a look back at all the most-talked-about, prettiest or coolest hair and make-up moments from New York, London, Milan and Paris. The top pros in the business have definitely ensured we’ll have a gamut of inspiration to turn to once we welcome autumn again.
Several looks left us totally fascinated, including Val Garland’s multi-coloured all-over-the-face glittered masks at Giambattista Valli. We also goggled over Alyssa Traoré’s holographic runway lips for Maison Margiela and the way the gurus at Thom Brown slicked down hair with gold metallic paint. However, we have skipped the trends that are more for admiring from your Instagram feed and rounded up the ones you can really wear. Don’t worry though, we’ve definitely included some daring looks, plus many can be re-created in the comfort of your home.
Tom Ford’s Smokey Eye
Tom Ford’s inspiration merged two iconic eye looks, his own signature smokey eye, which was given a romantic twist, infused with a modern reinvention of Edie Sedgwick's smoke-black eye.
Giorgio Armani’s Overall Elegance
Always inspired by the DNA of the Armani essence, Linda Cantello, Giorgio Armani’s international make-up artist, said the make-up was “a simplified ode to sophistication and modernity. Nothing too strident, a harmony of flattering shades to suit every incarnation.”
Saint Laurent’s Bold Eye Statement
For the Saint Laurent show, Tom Pecheux created a graphic, sophisticated punk look, which extended towards the outer corner of the eye. The powerful cat eyes were brightened in the inner corners by a grey silver eyeshadow.
Kenzo’s Striped Manicure
Stripes are always in fashion, even as nail art, as illustrated at Kenzo. Plus, a black and white combination is timeless and elegant, and all that contrast instantly draws attention.
Creatures of Comfort’s Sparkly Nails
Who said glittery nails need to come in one colour? At Creatures of Comfort, multi-coloured shimmers were created by using a sheer white nail polish and oodles of glitter to fashion the gradient ombré effect.
Moschino’s Ode to Jackie O’s Hair
At Moschino, it was Jackie O, one of the most revered style references, who largely influenced Jeremy Scott. And the next level looks included the former First Lay’s iconic voluminous bouffant bob with the slight flip up at the ends.
Max Mara’s Pink Puckers
At Max Mara, models were either given a blurred cat eye or a bold lip. We’ve chosen to focus on the beautiful matte fuchsia puckers as we think it will brighten up those gloomy winter days. What’s more, it seems to be feminism’s go-to hue!
Genny’s Glittery Eyes
Genny offered us an extremely pretty night out look with this glitter-lined brow. The glitter was cleverly and creatively applied below the arches of models' eyebrows and at the inner corners of the eye.
Roksanda’s Braided Chignon
This mid-level slightly messy but chic chignon is the perfect whimsical alternative to the classic bun. The feminine and versatile braided chignon, created by James Pecis, can easily become your new go-to updo come autumn.
Simone Rocha’s Braids
For Simone Rocha, James Pecis created a head-turning assortment of fanciful braids, which are going to be hotter than ever next season. Bow appliqués and must-have ribbons added the perfect finishing touches to the graceful styles.
Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s ‘Glacial’
The beauty world’s obsession with glitter isn’t over yet! Just when we thought we had seen it everywhere possible, we discovered the scattering of iridescent and gold glitter across models’ foreheads at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. Val Garland, who named the look the ‘glacial’, thought the best way to create a delicate and refined glow was to blow the flakes of iridescent and gold glitter onto the models’ faces.
Dior’s Neon Eyeliner
If you love the 60s, then look to Dior's runway for some fabulous inspiration. Peter Philips, the Creative and Image director of Christian Dior Makeup, ensured bold eye looks and neon eyeliner colours took centre stage. Models wore doubly lined lids in electric yellow, pink or orange to match their sunnies.
Sonia Rykiel’s Crimped Locks
Sonia Rykiel’s crimped hair must be one of the coolest looks we saw during Fashion Month. It has so much volume and body and is perfect for adding a wild touch to your beauty look. Are you ready to wear it once the temperatures start to cool down again?
Sophia Webster’s Glam Nail Art
For the Sophia Webster presentation CND ambassador Marian Newman wanted to make nails “the ultimate fashion accessory.” And she didn’t disappoint by coming up with a host of flashy styles, inspired by the glitz and glam of the ballroom. She created sunset ombré effects, for example, by using Swarovski flatpack gems and crystal pixie sparkle.
Bottega Veneta’s Deep Scarlet Lipstick
We saw several jaw-dropping jewel-tone shades on models’ lips during the Bottega Veneta show, but it was the deep scarlet matte lippie on model Vittoria Ceretti that stole our hearts. We’ll have to remember to swipe some on for that special date night!
